Sensex
M0.02Also called BSE Sensex, S&P BSE Sensex.
The older Indian benchmark, covering thirty large companies on a free-float weighted basis.
Its longer history makes it the series usually quoted for long-run Indian equity returns, and it is the index most often referenced in general media.
The two main Indian benchmarks move almost identically, since they share most of their large constituents. Choosing between them rarely matters for analysis; using one consistently does.
Thirty names against fifty is the only structural difference worth noting.
